Snow goose

There are two colour plumage morphs in snow geese: white body with black-tipped flight feathers, which is the most abundant, and bluish-grey with white head and neck. They are both the same species.

Reproduction

From the age of 3 years old, mating and egg laying take place between June and July. The female incubates 4-5 eggs for 23-25 days. The fledglings’ first flight takes place 38-49 days later.

Alimentation

Herbivorous, feeding on rhizomes, aquatic and semi-aquatic plants, grasses and cultivated grains.

Prédateurs

Foxes, skuas, seagulls, common raven and birds of prey among others.

Longévité

Average of 8 years in the wild and over 20 years in captivity.
