The Canadian cow is the only North American breed of dairy cow. It was developed in Quebec from cattle originating in Brittany and Normandy. This race is declining, but some breeders are now trying to save its genetic makeup.

Reproduction

Mating begins at 1 or 2 years, depending on animal husbandry. The cow can mate at any moment. Gives birth to one single calf, occasionally 2, following a gestation period of around 9 months. The calf is weaned at 6 to 8 months.

Alimentation

Herbivore, eats pasture grass or dry hay in the stable.

Longévité

Up to 24 years.
