This swan is easily recognized by its trumpeting call, like the sound of a horn on an old car. Honk! Honk!

Reproduction

Pairs for life at 4 years. Mating and egg laying occur between April and early June. The 5-6 eggs are incubated by the female for 33-37 days. The young fledge after 100-120 days.

Alimentation

Herbivorous , feeding principally on aquatic plants.

Prédateurs

Eggs and/or young may be taken by large birds of prey, coyote and mink.

Longévité

Up to 12 years in the wild and 35 years in captivity.
