Rocky mountain goat

Sure-footed, this species is very well adapted to mountain living and can climb steep, rocky slopes inaccessible to land predators. Its padded cloven hooves provide a good grip on rocky ledges.

Reproduction

Sexually mature at 2 years. Mating occurs between late November and early January. A single kid is born between late May and mid-June after a gestation period of 6 months and is weaned after 6 weeks.

Alimentation

Herbivorous, feeding on grasses and forbs, twigs and shoots.

Prédateurs

Cougar and gray wolf. Young may also be taken golden eagle, grizzly bear and wolverine.

Longévité

About 12 years in nature.
