The prey of choice of the Canadian lynx is the snowshoe hare. Therefore, the lynx population follows the hare’s abundance cycle.

Reproduction

Generally, the female is sexually mature at 2 years. Mating occurs between March and April. The 1-4 cubs are born between May and June after a gestation period of 9-10 weeks, and are weaned after 3 months.

Alimentation

Carnivorous, feeding principally on snowshoe hares, but takes many other species of mammals, birds and even fish.

Prédateurs

Beside human, cougar and gray wolf.

Longévité

Up to 15 years in the wild and about 20 years in captivity.
