The fisher is a very agile and expert climber. It feeds off various species of small mammals and because of its light-footedness, it will brazenly attack porcupines that hide in the trees.

Reproduction

Sexually mature at 2 years. Mating and birth occur between March and April. The 1-6 young are born after a delayed implantation (10 months) followed by an active gestation period of 2 months, and are weaned after 12-16 weeks.

Alimentation

Carnivorous, it is a major predator of the American porcupine, it also takes small mammals, certain birds and fish.

Prédateurs

Great horned owl, Canadian lynx, bobcat and black bear.

Longévité

Up to 10 to 11 years in the wild and in captivity.
