The sexual dimorphism (difference between the sexes) of the Siberian ibex is evidenced through the size of the horns. Although both sexes are horned, the males’ horns are truly impressive.

Reproduction

From 2 years of age, mating takes place between October and January. After a gestation period of approximately 6 months, the female gives birth generally to only 1 baby between April and June, which will be weaned around 7 months old.

Alimentation

Herbivorous, feeding on grasses, leaves, flowers and young shoots and if needed, conifer needles, buds and small branches.

Prédateurs

Mainly snow leopard, but also wolf, brown bear, lynx and golden eagle.

Longévité

Up to 15 years in the wild.
