Often confused with the dromedary living in warm climates, the Bactrian camel has adapted to cold weather. On both species, the hump stores fat.

Reproduction

From 3 to 5 years of age, the male and female mate in the autumn. After a 12 to 14 month gestation period, the female gives birth to only 1 young which will be weaned around 1 year old. Female mates every other year.

Alimentation

Herbivorous, feeding on roots, fruit, bark and wood of various plants which are either salty, dried, bitter or thorny.

Prédateurs

Wolf and man, even today.

Longévité

Approximately 35 years in the wild.
