In the 60s, the last of this species of wild horses were in zoos and parks. Through a reproduction and conservation program, the Przewalski’s horse is back in its natural habitat.

Reproduction

From 2 or 3 years of age, mating takes place between June and July. After a gestation period of 11 to 12 months, the female gives birth to only 1 young between June and July, which will be weaned around 1 year old.

Alimentation

Herbivorous, feeding mainly on woody and fibrous vegetation. It also eats herbaceous plants, leaves, fruit and bark as needed.

Prédateurs

Previously man had been responsible for its disappearance and wolf.

Longévité

Up to 25 years in the wild.
