As its name suggests, this goose is easily identified by the two black bars on its white head. Like other geese, it migrates for nidification and wintering. The bar-headed goose can fly at altitudes over 6,000 metres.
Reproduction
From the age of 2 years old, mating and egg laying take place between April and June. The female incubates 3 to 8 eggs for 28 to 30 days. The goslings’ first flight takes place 50 to 60 days later.
Alimentation
Herbivorous, feeding especially on grasses, aquatic plants, seeds and fruits and sometimes on insects and other aquatic organisms.
Prédateurs
Fox and birds of prey among others.
Longévité
Approximately 10 years in the wild.
