Arctic fox

Remarkably well adapted to the cold, this species has some of the most insulating fur around. Arctic foxes sometimes follow polar bears and feed off their leftovers.

Reproduction

Breeding takes place between February and April. After a gestation period of about 50 days, the female has a litter of 3 to 9 cubs. The young are weaned 6 to 7 weeks later. Both the male and female care for the offspring.

Alimentation

They prey on lemmings and voles and complement their diet with eggs, birds, fish, insects, algae, fruit and carcasses. They will store food in times of abundance.

Prédateurs
